Ann Geckles

Liberal KS ˜ Ann Geckles, 89, Liberal, KS, died Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Larned Health Care Center, Larned, KS. ˜ She was born September 27, 1921 at Bison, KS, the daughter of George & Matilda M. Seuser Wagner. ˜˜ She graduated high school at Bison, KS in 1940 as salutatorian of˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜ her class.˜ During World war II, she˜ taught grade school˜ in Miami˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜ County, KS for several years. She moved to Liberal and operated˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜ the Liberal Taxi and later was an officer at the west Port of Entry˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜ many years.˜ ˜˜ She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, UMW, Rebekah Lodge and served in all of the offices.˜ She was an excellent cook and baker. ˜˜ On July 20, 1940, she married Clinton Geckles at Greensburg, KS, he died June 16, 1985. ˜˜ She is survived by one sister, Marjorie Niewald,˜ Larned, KS;˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜ several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in˜˜ death by her˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜ parents, husband˜ and two brothers. ˜˜ Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M.˜ Friday˜ at Miller Chapel ˜˜ Interment will be in the Liberal Cemetery. ˜˜ Friends may call at the Miller Mortuary˜˜ 9 A.M. until service time Friday. ˜˜ The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church in care of the mortuary.
