Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Jones, 92, of Liberal, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019. She was born on July 9, 1926 to Walter Eli and Doris Elizabeth (Bowers) Dunlap in Hereford, TX. Betty Graduated from Hereford High School and went on to receive her college degree from Texas State College for Women in Denton, TX. She married Eugene Ralph "Sonny" Jones, Jr. on October 1, 1950 in Hereford, TX. Betty & Sonny were not only partners in life, they were partners in Farming, Ranching and Business. Betty enjoyed being active in many organizations, among them were P.E.O., Aurora Club & Hobby Club. She represented the American Legion Auxiliary as part of the Girl's State Staff for several years. As a member of the American Legion Auxiliary she served in many positions locally, was Department of Kansas President in 1988-1989 and in 1996-1997 she served as the National American Legion Auxiliary Chaplain. Betty was also a long time member of the Presbyterian Church of Liberal. Betty is survived by her son Eugene R. "Gene" Jones, III and wife Sharon of Liberal, KS; Two Daughters- Lori Jones Kirk and husband Charles of Pratt, KS, Elizabeth Jones of South Dakota, and several nieces & nephews that were also dear to her. She was preceded in death by her husband Sonny, her parents and her brother Dean Dunlap. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, February 22, 2019, 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Liberal. A Private Burial has taken place in the Liberal City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Auxiliary in care of Miller Mortuary PO Box 826 Liberal, KS 67905-0826.
