Charles "Chuck" Gates, 77, of Liberal, passed away on Tuesday August 5, 2025 at Wheatridge Care Park in Liberal.

He was born on December 3, 1947 to Allen and Ida (Manthe) Gates at Leavenworth, KS.

Chuck was a graduate of De Soto High School in De Soto, KS; Class of 1965. Chuck worked as a Carni for the Pride of Texas Traveling Carnival for 10 years and was also a Cook for many years. He enjoyed taking photos, recording video, and never knew a stranger. He also liked rabbits and had a pet Guinea pig named Susie. Chuck always looked forward to Christmas as he enjoyed seeing the lights and eating the delicious candy. He was proud of his Black Foot American Indian heritage. Chuck loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews who will all miss him greatly.

Chuck is survived by Three Sisters, Patricia Kirk and husband Allan of Liberal, KS, Katherine Manthe of Shattuck, OK, Wilma Gates of Lawrence, KS; several Nieces & Nephews.

He was preceded in death by Father, Allen Edgar Gates, Mother, Ida Cornelia Biggerstaff, Brother, Dennis Meckling, Step-Father, Wilbur Biggerstaff, Brother-in-Law, Ivan Manthe, and nephew, Virgil Manthe.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 8, 2025, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Miller Mortuary, Liberal, Kansas.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, 10:00 am at the Miller Mortuary Chapel. Burial will take place in the Liberal City Cemetery.
