Ernest England

Ernest James 'Lightning" England, 95, of Kismet, passed away on Tuesday December 2, 2025 at his home.

He was born on February 7, 1930 to Ruben and Ella (Dageforde) England at Osawatomie, KS.

On August 3, 1952 he married Wanita Rose at Larned, KS.

Ernest was a graduate of Paola High School; class of 1951. After graduation he joined the Army and served four years before settling down in Kismet, KS. Ernest worked as a Mechanic for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline for 40 years before retiring in 1988. He has also worked for the city of Kismet for 10 years and was a custodian for Grace Lutheran Church for over 10 years. Ernest was a jack of all trades who enjoyed working on old cars and could repair just about any engine he ever encountered. He was a faithful servant to his community and the Lord. His love of his family and Christian faith was the center of his life. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Church in Liberal. 

Ernest is survived by his loving wife of 73 years Wanita, Two Daughters, Kay Harris of Colorado City, TX, Brenda (Dennis) Grubbs of Lakin, KS; Son, Darrell England of Plains, KS; One Brother, Victor England of Gillette, WY, One Sister, Shirley Schaeffer of Perry, KS ; 7 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, and 7 Great Great Grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Daughter Beverly Myers, Son-in-law, Kenneth Myers, Son-in-law, Eldon Harris, One Brother and Three Sisters. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.

A Family Held Memorial Service will be 11:00 am Saturday December 6, 2025 at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Liberal with a Visitation held from 10:00 am to service time. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests Memorial Donations be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.
