Eugene Ralph "Gene" Jones III

Eugene Ralph "Gene" Jones III, 72, of Liberal, passed away on March 5, 2024 at his home.

He was born on August 14, 1951 to Eugene Ralph Jr. and Elizabeth "Betty" (Dunlap) Jones at Liberal, KS. He attended school at LHS, class of 1969. After graduation he attended SCCC and the University of Texas in El Paso, on a wrestling scholarship. He finished his formal education at KU.

Gene loved the adventure of travel and was introduced to Latin culture while at El Paso. He spent his first spring break driving to Mexico City and Acapulco in1970. This began a 50+ year journey to exciting countries and curious places, many with Sharon and friends. Each of those years there were two constants; returning to Latin America, often to the Yucatan and coming home to southwest Kansas. Gene enjoyed gardening and experimenting with different plants, which led to an interest in cooking, and the reward; of eating. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, he was Grand Master of Mason Fargo Lodge 300, and a loyal Jayhawk. He worked as a businessman, who owned and operated the family business with his wife; Jones Monument Co. until 2022.

Gene is survived by his wife and best friend Sharon, Two Sisters, Lori Jones of Pratt, KS, Elizabeth Jones of Faith, SD.

He was preceded in death by Mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Jones, Father, Eugene Ralph Jones, Jr.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 8, 2024, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Miller Mortuary, Liberal, Kansas.
