Flora Vargas Pérez , a beloved artist and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, in Liberal, Kansas, at the age of 82.
She was born on May 26, 1943, in Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo, México to Enrique Vargas Islas and Isabel Perez Pasten.
Flora married Oscar M. Bustillos P. on March 24, 1966 in Mexico City; he preceded her in death on April 22, 2021.
She poured her heart into her craft as a talented porcelain and canvas oil painter, leaving behind a legacy that inspired those around her. Flora was a loving and caring individual whose warmth touched the lives of her family and friends. She had a passion for painting and was delighted in creating. Her love and passion for oil painting allowed her to convey emotions and stories on canvas, forming a unique connection with those who viewed her art.
Beyond her artistic pursuits, Flora had a deep affection for music, particularly enjoying the heartfelt tunes of “Amorcito Corazón” by Los Panchos, "Amor Eterno" by Juan Gabriel , "Muñequita Linda" by María Grever, “My Way” by Frank Sinatra and "Di Porque” from the album Kids songs Cri-Cri by Gabilondo Soler. These songs brought joy to her life, especially when she sang them for her grandchildren, creating treasured memories that will linger in their hearts.
Flora was also a devoted dog lover and owner She found companionship and happiness in her beloved dog Chiquis. Not only that, but she was constantly surrounded by the dogs of her daughter Odra; Nunus, Penny, Boi, Tika, Canela, Tana and Cometa. The time spent with her furry friends and family was filled with laughter and unconditional love.
She leaves behind her beloved daughters, Odra F. Bustillos Vargas married to Fernando Herrera R. in Liberal, KS and Flora F. Bustillos Vargas married to Alejandro I. Estivill C. in Ethiopa, Africa. Her cherished grandchildren, María F. Herrera , Ana K. Herrera, Isabel D. Estivill, and Sebastian A. Estivill and wife Karla Alfaro Pizaña.
Beloved by her neighbors in Coyoacán, México City. In particular Juan Carlos Soriano Beltran and wife Ángeles Del Águila Belmont who offered support and love. Flora's spirit will continue to shine brightly through her family, who carry her love and artistic legacy forward.
Flora was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Oskar M. Bustillos V.; her sisters, Enriqueta Vargas P. and María del Socorro Vargas P. and her dearest uncles Ignacio Santillán and Anne Doherty who cared for her as if they were her parents.
She is remembered with love and gratitude for the profound impact she made on the lives of those who knew her. Flora will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to witness her uniqueness.
