James R. (Sonny) Poteet Jr.

James Richard (Sonny) Poteet Jr., 84, died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas. He was born January 5, 1930 at Paola, KS, the son of James and Ruth (Henderson) Poteet. He married Edythe Ives in 1968 at Moscow, Kansas, she preceded him in death on January 27, 2011. Sonny was a class of 1949 graduate of Moscow High School. He went on to join the Army and served in the Korean War. After his military discharge he did many things including truck driving, construction, and farming. He was also a Diesel Mechanic for Case Tractor from which he retired from in 1968. He was a member of the American Legion. His survivors include two sons - George Mariotti of Council Bluffs, IA; Tony Mariotti and wife Charlotte of Montgomery, TX; one daughter - Genny Lou Gregg and husband Eldon Keith of Dallas, TX; daughter in law - Gay Poteet of Kansas City, MO; one grandson - Connor Poteet, 9 step grandchildren and 11 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son - Richard Poteet, III; two sisters - Betty Jean Fellers and Glenis Poteet. Visitation will be Monday, November 17, 2014 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Miller Mortuary. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Miller Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Jack Jacob officiating. Interment will be in the Moscow Cemetery, Moscow, Kansas with Military Honors provided by the Liberal American Legion Post 80. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of James R.
