Johnny Layne Norton, 67, of Liberal, passed away at his home on Monday, April 20, 2026 in Liberal, KS.
He was born on April 28, 1958 to Lenard and Daisy (Mills) Norton in Satanta, KS. He attended high school in Moscow and graduated in 1977.
Johnny worked at National Beef as a supervisor for many years and later drove truck for various companies including National Carriers.
Johnny's personality was marked by a deep affection for the simple pleasures of country living growing up. As the baby brother, he often displayed a charming independence, creating his own entertainment and cherished moments. One of these was embracing his distinctive curly hair, a reflection of his unique spirit.
A man of varied interests, Johnny enjoyed bowling, coyote hunting, and the freedom found in riding both motorcycles and horses throughout his life. His enthusiasm extended to sports; he was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorn football teams. Johnny also enjoyed watching WWE wrestling. These passions offered him great joy.
Johnny is survived by Three Daughters, Crystal Cochran & spouse Mickey of Liberal, KS, Amanda Norton of Wichita, KS, Shendall Montgomery of Wichita, KS; Son, Travis Norton of Wichita, KS; Three Sisters, Lynne Fink & spouse Mike of Moscow, KS, Vicki Gaskill & spouse Glen of Hugoton, KS, Linda Shaddix & spouse Johnny of Moscow, KS; Brother, Larry Norton of Moscow, KS; Two Grandchildren, Madilynn Norton & Macey Cochran and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lenard Norton, and mother, Daisy Norton.
No visitation will be held as cremation has taken place.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 1, 2026 at the Moscow Cemetery with Mike Owens officiating.
Memorial funds are suggested to be made to the Pheasant Haven of Hugoton KS in memory of Johnny Norton.
