Larry Dean Johnson, 76, of Liberal, passed away on Friday January 2, 2026 in Amarillo, TX.
He was born on January 14, 1949 to Lawrence and Lorinda (Cole) Johnson at Garden City, KS.
On July 23, 1971 he married Linda Whiteley at the Methodist Church Liberal, KS.
Larry was drafted into the US Army where he proudly served his country. Upon returning to the states he worked on Oilfield Derricks then later started his own businesses Johnson Services and Johnson Pool Services. He later went to work as a truck driver for Yellow Freight from which he retired. In 2025 Larry was honored to travel to Washington DC through theVeterans Honor Flight program to visit memorials that commemorate veteran's service and sacrifices. Larry enjoyed many hobbies including riding his Harley, fishing, doing yard work, and traveling to Branson. Larry was also a bit of a jokester with his family and friends. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and being the "favorite uncle" to his nieces & nephews.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Linda; Son, Stacy Johnson and wife Tracy of Guymon, OK; Two Sisters, Lorna Hill of Hooker, OK and Velma Durre of Edgewood, Illinois; Three Grandchildren, Jordan, Whitney, and Makyla; 10 Great Grandchildren, along with several Nieces & Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Parents; Son, Jeff Johnson; Grandson, Taylor Siegrist; Five Brothers, Lawrence Johnson, Don Johnson, Bill Johnson, Carl Johnson, and Glen Johnson; Sisters, Leona Cohenour and Pauline Hammond.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, 2:00 pm at the Miller Mortuary Chapel, with Rev. Jeff Mitchell, officiating.
Inurnment will take place in the Liberal City Cemetery following the service with Military Honors conducted at the graveside.
The family requests Memorials be made payable to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Shriner's Hospital, or the Wounded Warriors Project in care of Miller Mortuary PO Bos 826 Liberal, KS 67905-0826.
