LaVerne D. "Vern" Davis

Balko. OK ˜ LaVerne D. "Vern" Davis, 92, Balko, OK, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at Oklahoma University Hospital, Oklahoma City. ˜˜ He was born November 1, 1918 in Beaver County, OK, the son of John H. & Opal Rennick Davis.˜ Vern attended school at Turpin and graduated the Beaver High School in 1939 and attended Phillips University, Enid, OK, until being drafted.˜ A veteran of World War II, serving in the U S Army Air Corps as a medic.˜ On October 5, 1943, he˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜ married Doris Criswell at Oberlin, KS.˜˜ Upon returning from the service, Vern was a lifelong farmer and rancher in Beaver County to present, and a member of the First Christian Church, Beaver, OK. ˜˜˜ In addition to his wife, Doris Davis; he is survived by one daughter, Karen Grose and husband Joe, Balko, OK; one brother, Harold Davis and wife Ida Mae,Warrensburg, MO;˜ two sisters, Lucille Myers and husband Bill, Liberal, KS; Betty Janzen, Balko, OK;˜ four grandchildren, Tara Flanagan, Tracey Ferguson, Colt & Heath Davis; five great-grandchildren, Sara Hodges, Dustin Kitchens, Abigale, Trenton, & Bradley Ferguson; one great-great-granddaughter, Bostyn Hodges.˜ He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Merle & Johnny Davis, one sister Depha Dain, a son Jerry Lee Davis. ˜˜ Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Monday at the First Christian Church, Beaver, OK, with Pastor Rick Main presiding. ˜˜ Interment will be in the Liberal Cemetery, Liberal, KS. ˜˜ Friends may call at the Miller Mortuary 10 A.M.-8 P.M. Saturday and 1-8 P.M. Sunday at the Miller Mortuary, Liberal, KS. ˜˜ In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be sent to the First Christian Church in care of the mortuary.
