LEON M. SOUTHERN

Leon M. Southern, 82, Liberal, KS, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Kansas Soldiers Home in Dodge City, KS. He was born June 7, 1930 at Hooker, OK, the son of Chester M. and Iris M. Mendenhall Southern. Leon graduated from Eureka High School in Baker, OK.˜ He was in the Air Force from 1951 to 1973 and was an aircraft mechanic.˜ He was the driver of the day care bus for the First Baptist Church from 1977 until he retired in 2010.˜ He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and a life member of the VFW. Leon married Cherie L. Cox June 12, 1986.˜ She survives. Other survivors include a son, David Southern and wife Norma, Amarillo, TX; step-son Shon Hatfield and wife Dena, MurchisonTX; daughters Linda Arthur and husband Dave, Angel Fire, NM; Becky NeiKirk and husband Chris, Clovis, NM; step-daughter Gena Hampton and husband Jimmy, Turpin, OK; three sisters, Juanita Grant, Hooker, OK; Sonya Davis and husband Bobby, Richfield, KS; Vera Browne, Liberal, KS; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.˜ He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law Chester Grant and Jerry Browne. Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Arlen Ankle presiding.˜ Interment will be in Liberal Cemetery. Friends may call at Miller Mortuary, 3-7 P.M. Thursday and 10 A.M. - 7 P.M. Friday. Family suggests memorials be sent to Wounded Warriors or the Angels for Animals in care of the mortuary.
