Maxine McLaughlin

Lillian Maxine McLaughlin, 91, of Liberal, KS passed away on Monday September 28, 2026 at Wheatridge Park Center.

She was born on January 6, 1935 to Ervin and Ina (Dankers) Elder at Fortescue, MO.

On September 23, 1955 she married Jack D. McLaughlin in St. Joseph, MO. He preceded her in death on August 18, 2000.

Maxine graduated from high school in St. Joseph, MO where she was Valedictorian. She was an accomplished golfer. Maxine also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and board games with family and friends. 

She is survived by her four daughters: Debbie Sumner and husband Dean of Liberal, KS, Rhonda McLaughlin and husband Shaun Bookless of Dodge City, KS, Rita Foster and husband Clark of Liberal, KS; and Deanna Burkhart and husband Jerry of Liberal, KS; her grandchildren: Chad, Jesse, and Derek Sumner; Dustin and Preston Johnson; Cierra and Cherish Bookless; Mitchell and Kari Foster; Alan and Joshua Burkhart; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Aubrey, Joslyn, Paisley, Arya and Kayden Sumner; Annie, Adrian and Wren Johnson; Mitchell, Jr (MJ) and Mason Foster; Jonas Temple; Rhett, Tate, Katie, Summer, Diesel, Jackie, Calvin and Eleanor Grace Burkhart; and great-great-grandchildren: Mayzie and Tripp Watkins; Oliver and Milo Burkhart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Ina Elder; husband, Jack McLaughlin; son, Randy McLaughlin; granddaughter, Kinsley Sumner; and four sisters: Helen, Joyce, Karol, and Kay "Jean".

Visitation will be 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday October 2, 2026 at Miller Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am Saturday October 3, 2026 at the Miller Mortuary Chapel, with Rev. Jeff Mitchell officiating. 

Burial will follow in the Liberal City Cemetery.
