Peggy Lou Bell

Peggy Lou Bell, 98, of Liberal, passed away on Friday July 17, 2026 at Liberal Good Samaritan Nursing Home.

She was born on December 6, 1927 to Jude Birl and Leone Augusta (Stokes) Gatewood at Vernon, TX.

On November 25, 1948 she married Kenneth Paul Bell at Vernon, TX. Paul preceded her in death on May 25, 1997.

Paul and Peggy moved to Liberal in 1968. Peggy worked as a Bookkeeper at First National Bank for 20 years before retiring in 1999. She was a former volunteer with the Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary and enjoyed Painting with the Liberal Senior Center Painting Group. Peggy was a longtime member of the Western Ave. Church of Christ.

Peggy is survived by her son, Mark (Leah) Bell of Ardmore, OK; brother, Farris Gatewood of Vernon, TX; granddaughters, Rebecca Lynn (Ben) Johnson of Lebanon, TN and Ashley Elizabeth (Ben) Skow of College Station, TX; and five great-grandchildren: Marshall Johnson, Wyatt Johnson, Annie Johnson, Clara Skow, and Owen Skow. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother Foye Lee Gatewood, and sister Patricia Neugebauer. 

A private family Graveside Burial was held on Wednesday July 22nd at Eastview Memorial Cemetery in Vernon, TX.
