Rosa Maria Portillo, 76, formerly of Liberal, transitioned into heaven on Friday February 9, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS with her beloved children by her side in her final moments.
She was born on February 23, 1947 to Faustino Soto and Tomasa Lozoya Soto at San Francisco de Conchos, Mexico.
On October 17, 1966 she married Santos Portillo in Mexico; he preceded her in death on October 30, 2014.
Rosa, was tenderly referred to as “Rosita” by many of her friends and a "sweet lady" by all others that met her. She diligently worked at National Beef Packing in Liberal for 43 years. Rosa loved to cook and always made sure everyone was well fed. She enjoyed all types of music and spoke often of how she loved to dance when she was younger. Rosa enjoyed life and loved to laugh! She was a long-time member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where she served faithfully for many years. Nothing gave her greater joy than spending time with her family and friends whom she loved unconditionally. Rosa had recently relocated to Wichita and enjoyed the community and activities at Catholic Charity Adult Day Services where she attended twice a week. She left a legacy of resilience and hard work that will continue to be lived out in her children, their children, and beyond. Rosa was married to her beloved Santos for 48 years with whom she is now joyously rejoicing with in Heaven!
