Troy D. Cooper was born in Liberal Kansas, at Southwest Medical Center. He was the son of Troy L. Cooper and Shirley Cooper. Troy spent his early school years in Liberal, KS, where he attended grade school through fifth grade. His family moved to Rolla, Kansas, where he completed his schooling.
Troy was a gifted and dedicated athlete during his years at Rolla High School; he participated in all school sports and developed a deep love for athletics and competition. His hard work and dedication helped his team win a state championship in 1996, a proud accomplishment that remains an important part of his story. Above all Troy loved the Lord and knew the Lord; Troy also had a God-given gift for music. He was a gifted drum player who shared his talents by playing drums for churches singing groups and bands. Through his music he brought joy to many people and became a blessing to those he served.
Troy also loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing. Whether enjoying music and sports, fishing and work, or time with family and friends, he had a way of making memories that would remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Troy later made his home in Tucumcari, New Mexico where he lived for 22 years. He was a man who believed in working hard and serving his community. Troy worked in several different fields, including as a correctional officer at Santa Rosa Prison, in customer service with Alco, and in roofing & landscaping. He also gave his time to the community as a referee, umpire, and Little League coach.
On March 3rd, 2007, Troy married Deon Cooper; together they shared many years of life, family and memories.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Deon Cooper, his children Troikeyla Cooper of Lawrence, KS; Kyn'sha Green of Wichita, Kansas, Zedrick Henderson and Estrella Montoya of Santa Rosa, New Mexico, Zelle Henderson of Tucumcari, New Mexico, TJ Lampkin and Anastasia of Tucumcari, New Mexico, Ty Lampkin, Tucumcari, New Mexico, Markevis Cooper and Lanie of Tucumcari, New Mexico; and Miraquilis Cooper of Tucumcari, New Mexico. His brothers, who grew up with him in the same household, were Phillip Washington, Michael Edmondson, Demetrius Edmondson and Lance Cooper. Twelve grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones, will forever cherish his memory.
Troy was preceded in death by his sister, TaQuana Neon Cooper and his stepson, Z'Marion Henderson-Green.
Troy D. Cooper’s life was one of faith, family, music, athletics, hard work, perseverance, and service to others. He made memories that will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His love for the Lord, his gift of music, his life love of fishing, and his devotion to family will be remembered for generations to come. He is no longer with us in person; his Love, his laughter, his music and the memory he created will remain with his family and friends.
