Zach Buchman

Zachary Dale Buchman, 40, of Liberal, passed away on Friday August 7, 2026 at Southwest Medical Center.

He was born on March 1, 1986 to Jeffrey and Danita (Way) Buchman at Liberal, KS.

On October 4, 2008 he married Mirella Gaitan at Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church in Liberal, KS.

Zach graduated from Liberal High School; class of 2004. He later obtained his Bachelor's Degree from OPSU in 2009.

For 15 years, Zach dedicated himself to the Transportation Security Administration, eventually serving as a supervisor. He took pride in doing his job well, looking out for those around him, and earning the respect that comes from years of hard work and consistency. He enjoyed fishing, playing music trivia with his kids, and reminiscing about his grandpa, LeeRoy. Zach was a proud patriot who loved his country and the KC Chiefs. His greatest love, however, was his family. Zach loved watching his kids grow, compete, learn, and push themselves. Whether it was basketball, karate, MMA, 4-H, Shooting, or simply spending time together, he wanted his children to be strong-not just physically, but in character. He taught them to work hard, stand up for themselves, take responsibility, and keep going when things got difficult. His number one goal in life was to be a good dad for them.

Zach could be a bit stubborn, sarcastic, and hard-headed but he was also loyal, protective, hardworking, and deeply devoted to the people he loved.

He was a member of the OPSU Alumni Association and First Southern Baptist Church in Liberal.

Zach is survived by his loving wife, Mirella Buchman of Liberal, KS; his children, Scarlett Lee Buchman, Luke Roy Buchman, Mackenzie Faith Buchman, and Sawyer Matthew Buchman of Liberal, KS; mother, Danita Buchman of Liberal, KS; brother, Cody Lee Buchman of Hooker, OK; and his Golden Retriever, Emmy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jeffrey D. Buchman, his grandfather, LeeRoy Way, and his grandmother, Ellen Way.

Zach had specifically requested before his passing that there be no viewing telling his family "because if you do I will slap you when you get to heaven."
